Jones Gallery Lecture Series presents an introduction to the work of Molly Lamb Bobak, RCA (Canadian, 1922-2014). We will examine Lamb Bobak’s early life and training in Vancouver, BC, her experience during World War II as a Canadian War Artist and subsequent move to Fredericton, NB. We will also look at her masterful handling of crowds and her approach to depicting gatherings, marches, parades, and sporting events. Lamb Bobak is also known for her sensitive watercolour still lifes of flowers, a subject which she approached like a crowded landscape: "Poppies are like crowds," she said in 1943, "you don't organize them."

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Sarah Jones (BA, MA Art History, Queen’s University) is a visual artist, art historian, and curator. She conducted her graduate research on twentieth-century Canadian art and Nova Scotia artist, Maud Lewis, and recently participated in a panel discussion at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia about Lewis’ work in the marketplace. Sarah teaches art history occasionally at University of New Brunswick Saint John and is the curator of Jones Auction House and Jones Contemporary.
