Appraisal and Valuation Services

Overview

 

Our Appraisal Department provides comprehensive inventories and appraisal reports which are recognized by financial institutions, insurance brokers, and conform to regulations by government agencies including Canada Revenue Agency and the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board.

Jones Auction House appraisals are conducted by professionals who are trained in appraisal theory, principles, procedures, and ethics. All appraisal reports comply with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) of The Appraisal Foundation and the Appraisal Report Writing Standard and Code of Ethics of the International Society of Appraisers. 

We tailor each valuation to the collector and the collection, working with single items through to large corporate or institutional collections. We have extensive knowledge and expertise in the art market and a background in art historical scholarship, allowing us to offer the highest level of service and attention to detail.

Our Appraisal Services

Our comprehensive appraisal and valuation services include:

  • Estimates for sale

  • Valuations for collection management purposes

  • Appraisals for charitable donations, including donations of Certified Cultural Property

  • Reports for inheritance, estate, or family division planning

  • Appraisal for Insurance purposes or damage claims

Fees

$95 per item + $175/hour for documentation and research. Most items require 1-1.5 hours of documentation/research.

Our Qualifications

Our lead appraiser is one of the few specialists in Atlantic Canada qualified as Accredited Member with a Fine Arts Specialty through the International Society of Appraisers.

Caleb Jones is an Accredited Member (Fine Arts Specialty) of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and has been trained and tested in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) as established by The Appraisal Foundation. With these affiliations, Caleb and his associates maintain the highest professional code of ethics, operating within specific industry guidelines. Caleb retains a membership in ISA through ongoing education and professional service, and maintains his USPAP certification through regular training and examinations.

Why does this matter?

Not all personal property appraisers have the same qualifications, and not every appraisal association has the same membership requirements. The International Society of Appraisers is one of the only appraisal associations that requires rigorous training in appraisal theory and ethics for membership.
